Unemployment is set to become India's most important economic problem

According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, unemployment among graduates was 13.2 per cent in the last quarter of 2018.There are three implications that emerge from the data. The first is that unemployment has increased across India in all states and sectors. The second is that there is a dearth of jobs even among educated youth. The third thing is that there is no discernible pattern in the rise in unemployment in the states. For instance, Gujarat is considered to be a model of the development being tried out in the rest of India by the Central government. The state has had the highest increment in unemployment. West Bengal, however, has done well, even though there has been hardly any major new investment in the state in a very long time. Unemployment has been both structural and technological. This growth in unemployment is quite consistent with the overall growth in gross domestic product. The loss of low skilled jobs has been more than the creation of new jobs that require specific skills. Hence, there has been a rise in the number of the educated unemployed too. If this trend continues, unemployment will become the most important economic problem in India. No government can afford to ignore this trend. It must be realized that nationalism and Hindutva cannot fill empty stomachs. 1686282 1686696 DailyhuntDisclaimer: This story is auto-aggregated by a computer program and has not been created or edited by Dailyhunt.
